So, what can you do to be proactive in preventing a bed bug infestation this year? Be prepared with all the knowledge about bed bugs that you will need!
Bed bugs are nocturnal so don’t be surprised if you find zero signs of bed bugs in your hotel room and then wake to bed bug bites. The best time to look would be at night and with a flashlight.
Bed bugs do not live in beds, contrary to what many people think. Bed bugs actually live in well hidden areas such as behind the baseboards, in electrical outlets, under carpets, behind hanging artwork, and in many other small nooks and crannies. So don’t forget to inspect these areas!
Not everyone reacts to bed bug bites. If you are waking up to itchy red bumps but your spouse has clear skin, this does not mean that you are bed bug free!
Don’t forget to inspect your luggage before you bring it back into your home. It is best to take out all the clothes and do a thorough inspection and even vacuum out the suitcases before you put them back into the storage closet.
Keep in mind that despite your new bed bug knowledge, these sneaky pests can still find their way inside. If you are finding any signs of bed bugs like bed bug bites, small dark spots on the sheets, or even seeing live bed bugs, contact a local pest control company right away!
